CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Danna Balan aims to be the go-to place for those needing assistance with car-related documents, translation services or a notary.

She opened D&B Express Services the first week in January at 166 S.Main St. in downtown Chambersburg, bringing with her years of experience and a love for helping others.

Balan worked for Sollenberger’s Messenger Service Inc. in Chambersburg for four years, which offers car tags and titles, and notary services. She honed her skills there and discovered how much she liked customer service.

“I loved working with people,” said Balan, 25, whose work history also includes being a dental assistant.

When an opportunity arose for her to be her own boss, she reached for it.

“Doors opened up and I opened my own business,” Balan said, explaining that the name represents the first letters of her first name and maiden name.

D&B Express Services helps customers obtain their Pennsylvania car tags, titles and registration, as well as duplicates of titles. Balan also can notarize documents and puts her bilingual skills – she speaks English and Spanish – to use translating for people, including on important paperwork.

“I could offer something I already knew how to do,” Balan said. “Pretty much anything I can help with, I do.”

The mother of two young children, she acknowledged that juggling work and family life can be tricky. But she has support.

“It’s rough sometimes, but my husband helps me a lot,” she said of Darwin Martinez, 31.

Balan and Martinez live in Scotland, Pa., with their daughters, Mia, 3, and Eva, 8 months. Balan’s mother, Elbi Arana of Chambersburg, helps take care of the children when their parents are working.

Sam Thrush appreciates having D&B Express Services downtown to meet people’s needs and help the local economy grow.

“She saw that there was a need in the community and she’s filling that need,” said Thrush, president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc. “The more buildings we fill downtown, the better off we’ll be.”

D&B Express Services is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
