CHAMBERSBURG – Sponsorship opportunities and tickets remain available for the seventh annual Chambersburg Duck Derby in which dozens of rubber ducks will “race” a mile in the Concocheague Creek for a good cause, according to Sam Thrush, president of Downtown Chambersburg Inc.
The Duck Derby scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, will be a family-friendly event in which spectators can stand on the creek banks in a socially-distant manner that complies with guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19.
“It’s such fun every year to watch the rubber ducks make their way down the creek. You can often hear children cry out when they spot their duck,” Thrush said. “The small ducks are symbolic of the big support this community provides for downtown revitalization.”
Event sponsorship opportunities are available for commitments of $500 to $1,500. The lead sponsor as the Super Duck is Patriot Federal Credit Union, with additional sponsors including Star Insurance, Butcher Shoppe, Ghost Writer LLC and Ludwig Jewelers.
Tickets to compete with a numbered duck are $5 each or $25 for six tickets in a Quack Pack. Ticket-holders are eligible for cash prizes of up to $500.
Tickets are available from members of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School girls tennis team, from Downtown Chambersburg Inc. board members, at downtownchambersburgpa.com/duck-derby and by clicking the events page off facebook.com/DowntownCburg.
Rubber ducks will be deposited into the water adjacent to the Second Street fire station at 10:30 a.m. The finish line will be near The Ice Cream Station and Lincoln Way bridge. Spectators are encouraged to watch the journey from Chambers Fort Park and enjoy the park’s offerings while there.
Proceeds from the Duck Derby benefit downtown revitalization efforts conducted by Downtown Chambersburg Inc.
